SUMMARY OF JOB: An audiologist specializes in evaluating and treating people with hearing loss. The audiologist conducts a wide variety of tests to determine the exact nature of the individuals problem. The audiologist also dispenses and fits hearing aids, administers tests for balance and rehabilitation training. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Selects, administers and interprets the following diagnostic tests on patients of all ages; hearing tests, tympanograms, ABR, ENG, ECOCHG, OAE, reflex decay, Epley maneuvers and reflexes. 2. Selects ear molds, personal amplification and/or assistive testing devices and performs hearing aid evaluations, dispenses and fits hearing aids. 3. Uses an Otoscope to inspect eardrum and canal for wax. 4. Monitors and maintains an inventory of hearing aids, assistive listening devices and supplies. 5. Provides individual counseling and support guidance to help those with hearing loss function more effectively in social, educational and occupational environments. 6. Writes reports as required. 7. Makes ear mold impressions for sound molds, swim molds, hearing aids and noise. 8. Performs cochlear implant mapping. 9. Is knowledgeable of and efficiently operates the Companyxe2x80x99s electronic medical records system without error. 10. Performs in-office hearing aid repair. 11. Demonstrates good communication skills and collaborates with other professionals. 12. Plans and prioritizes work and is efficient in time management. 12. Is responsible for knowing the work schedule, observing work hours and maintaining a good attendance record. (See attached attendance and punctuality requirements.) 13. Attends in-service programs and maintains continuing education credits required for licensure requirements. 14. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with fellow employees, supervisors, patients, customers and the public. Exemplifies the Companyxe2x80x99s Five Star Program. 15. Follows all corporate and departmental policies and procedures and complies with the Employee Handbook. 16. Performs other tasks as needed or directed. PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS: A. Accountability:Reports directly to the Director of Audiology or the Supervisor of Audiology. B. Education or Training: Must have AuD or Masterxe2x80x99s degree in Audiology and certification by American Speech and Hearing Association and Alabama Board of Examiners for Speech, Pathology and Audiology. C. Knowledge and Experience: Preference will be given to audiologists with one or more years of work experience in the field of Audiology. Clinical Fellowship Year students will be considered. D. Dexterity: Must have good manual dexterity for examining patients and operating equipment. Must be able to function in an office setting. E. Accuracy: Must be able to accurately test patients and transcribe information received from patients, including insurance coverage, social security and telephone numbers without error. F. Physical Activity: Physical activity involves keying, writing, reaching, carrying, looking, listening, talking, bending, lifting, standing, walking, resulting in heavy work. G. Exertion Requirements: Heavy – exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally and 20 to 50 pounds of force frequently and 10 to 20 pounds of force regularly to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects. Must be able to walk, stand or sit to a significant degree depending on task requirements. H. Working Conditions: Works in an office setting, which is well-lighted, ventilated and temperature regulated. Automobile travel may be required. Must be able to concentrate on work tasks amidst distractions, such as noise, conversations and foot traffic. Must be able to work in a confined area performing repetitive work for extended periods of time. I. Hazards or Risks: In office minimal. J. Worker Characteristics: Must have responsible, ethical and professional manner with the ability to listen, learn, plan and organize. Must be able to communicate effectively with people of different races, sexes, ages and social classes. K. Non-performance Requirements: Alabama license to practice as an audiologist and ASHA certification. Must have a valid driverxe2x80x99s license and a Social Security card or work permit.
